Holiday Cottages - The Village

We are in the Cuckmere Valley just south of Alfriston on the road towards the Seven Sisters Countryside Park.

The village was originally a Manorial Farm and nearly all the structures are converted flint barns and buildings dating back to 1220. A farm from the saxon era,  the Smithy, Dairy, Great Barn, School and other houses remain.  Two national paths, The South Downs Way and Merchants Way thread their way through the woods here.  Nearby Lullington Heath is a rare chalk downland heath in the centre of the forest and well worth a visit.

National Trust and English Heritage properties such as the Clergy House and Pevensey Castle are in local beautiful villages and the tourist attractions of Eastbourne and Brighton a few miles away.  Lewes, the county town, is 10 miles to the west and has lovely Georgian architecture, independent shops and many restaurants and cafes.

Don't miss the early post-box on your visit.  It is one of the first installed by Anthony Trollope, the Postmaster General in early Victorian times, and it is in the wall just by Old Coach House.
